MrsFaceless and I though it would be interesting to compile a list of where we’ve been over the last few years, keeping count as you may say. OK, maybe more than the last few. This shouldn’t be too difficult so no need for a Difference Engine! But anyway, here it is. We’ll continue to update as we go and hopefully we’ll manage to knock of a few more States and National Parks each year!

The Anomolies

To make things more interesting, there are a whole host of places MrsFaceless or I have been which fall into a completely different classification structure. These include National Forests, National Monuments, National Memorials, National Register of Historic Places and National Natural Landmarks.

Sense And Sensibility

The Natural Landmarks and National Forests at least makes some sense, such as the Boulder Field in Hickory Run State Park, Pennsylvania or the Red River Gorge, a National Natural Landmark within the Daniel Boone National Forest in Kentucky. It appears there is an awful lot of overlap where a location could be in two or even three different categories and little to no logic as to why something is a National Park (such as Gateway Arch National Park, Missouri), a National Monument (such as Castle Clinton, New York), a National Memorial (such as Wright Brothers National Memorial, Kill Devil Hills, North Carolina) or designated a National Register Of Historic Places (such as Clarkson Bridge, Cullman County, Alabama).
